SEN Code of Practice

Information about ‘Implementing and Managing the Code of Practice’
Target audience – Sencos, new Sencos, aspiring Sencos!
The aims of the course were to look at:
- the implications of recent legislation;
- methods of identifying pupils experiencing difficulty;
- the reasons for and types of classroom based assessment;
- writing, devising and implementing Individual Education Plans;
- recording progress;
- strategies for support;
- pupil participation;
- partnership with parents.
At the completion of the courses the teachers had looked at:
- Inclusion and the implications of inclusive practices in classrooms and schools;
- understood the requirements of the SEN Code of Practice for Wales;
- will be able to carry out their Senco role confidently and effectively;
- will be able to appropriate plans and strategies for support.
Guest speakers have included Chris Seacombe (ATL), Heather Reid (NPT), Stuart Forbes(ATL), Nadine Thomas(EE), Lesley Williams(EE), Barbara Pincott(ATL), Chris Goss(SENCo) The Associate Staff Course booklet ‘Autumn Term courses’ has been given out in the Senco meetings this term but will be sent and e-mailed to all schools. Watch out for it!
