the first snow of winter

‘The First Snow of Winter’ is a short film based on an original story by Graham Ralph. With the approach of winter, birds are preparing to fly south, away from the imminent snow. When the migration starts, Sean, a duckling, still pursuing his favourite pastime of gull scaring, gets lost; and a near miss with an aeroplane breaks his wing. His mother searches for him, but presumes that a fox has eaten him. Stranded and fearful, Sean meets Voley, a kind hearted water vole, who comes up with various schemes to help, but eventually goes off to hibernate. Sean shelters in the lee of an old dinghy, but it gets smashed. Moving on, he finds that Puffy, a young puffin friend of his, is all alone too and promises to look after him. They survive the winter in an old Wellington boot. In the spring there is a confrontation with the fox and Sean’s family return.
