‘The Iron Giant’ is a film based on ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes. Having crash landed on earth, an iron giant searches for metal to consume. While trying to eat a power station, its life is in danger until Hogarth, a nine year old boy saves it. When rumours of strange happenings in the power station reach the FBI, a government agent arrives to investigate. Hogarth hides the giant in a local scrap yard and teaches it not to use its destructive powers. The FBI agent eventually discovers the giant and calls in the army to launch a nuclear attack on it. The giant detonates the bomb safely in space, but in doing so destroys himself.
